I am hopeful that one of your parishioners would consider putting a base shoe or a quarter round piece of moulding around the entire base of the rail. It would look much better and you could paint it with the leftover marble paint color. I would insist that it be glued on and not nailed because your rail is fragile and it will split.
If you click on the photos they will enlarge and you will be able to see the details
This photo above wont enlarge for some reason but all of the others will.
I failed to mention that this communion rail is made of wood, and it has a faux marble finish .
Ana touched up the panels on the side and Grace worked on the gold columns and the panels too.

Oh, how beautiful it looks! =D
Thank you.
Is that paint or gold leaf? I have seen many a church that has gone thru restoration. This looks real nice.
I've used gold leaf on many projects before but it would have been too time consuming and too expensive in this case. A 24 pack of gold leaf costs $9.00 plus glue and there were 32 rails.
I used a product called liquid gold leaf and it comes in small brown glass jar. It's toxic paint.
Father wanted it to at least appear to be gold.
I said to Father, "I can do the job cheaply and still make it look good."
While laughing at me he said , "I know you can Belinda" I know you can." I kept thinking while my kids were laughing. "What are these people laughing at?"
It was me.. They were laughing at me. :)
Hey... that Crucifix on the altar is creating a starburst effect like it would be coming out of the Tabernacle in the last pic....sweet!
